Ukraine has become one of the main suppliers of chicken in the EU
Over the three quarters of 2019, supplies of Ukrainian chicken to the European market grew by 4.2%, the report of the European Commission reads.
The State Fiscal Service disseminated data according to which only in January-October this year, our country exported chicken in the amount of $ 479.7 million in foreign currency. If we count in physical weight, then in the first 10 months we sent 333.8 thousand tons of poultry meat abroad.
The main buyers in this position are Slovakia ($ 51.8 million), the Netherlands ($ 88.1 million) and Saudi Arabia ($ 96.2 million).
During the reporting period, our country purchased three times less poultry meat than exported. For 9 months of this year, we sent 98.94 thousand tons of poultry meat to the EU (+ 4.2% compared to the same period a year earlier). Among our competitors, producers of poultry meat selling their products in the EU, were Thailand (exports amounted to 234.47 thousand tons) and Brazil (239.44 thousand tons).
It should be noted that recently the geography of export supplies has replenished with a new direction: Ukraine has agreed with Ethiopia veterinary certificates for the export of poultry meat and products from it.
In 2020, the State Consumer Service, as part of the World Bank program, intends to organize the issuance of international veterinary certificates for export through an electronic system.
The European Parliament has ratified changes to the economic part of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement, according to which duty-free quotas for the import of poultry from Ukraine, in particular chicken, are increasing.
At the end of 2018, the US Department of Agriculture predicted an increase in export volumes of chicken from Ukraine by 16.7%, or up to 350 thousand tons.
